Ordinary Things

I think I had something profound to say a few days ago, but never got around to writing it down. But maybe it's not about only writing the deep and profound and inspirational. Maybe sometimes the ordinary needs to be documented too. Here are a few highlights from my week:

1. Re-friending

Recently reconnected with a friend from my childhood. Our dads worked together long ago in another state, and we hadn't seen each other since we were five. Over some local flavors, we discovered we still have a lot in common, including a need for some spiritual community. After talking to my housemate and another friend who is also new to the area, it looks like we have a good start to a small group of quality single women.

2. Hiking in the rain

After a busy week, I took Sunday to fully immerse myself in some mountains. I didn't know exactly where I was going, but ended up on the perfect trail for a relatively short hike. Incredible mountain views, a waterfall, lake view, and some fall colors. I'm not the greatest naturalist, and probably miss a lot of the natural wonders I'm passing by. But I always feel closer to God somehow, and I can talk more freely with Him there. I'm reminded that He is so much bigger than I am, and I can give Him anything that seems too big for me.

3. Pizza man

My housemate and old friend, Sonya, and I have made a weekly tradition of buying a pizza from our neighbor, Chris, of Murray's Rustic Pie. He's a firefighter-turned-pizza-builder who converted a fire engine he once worked from into a rolling wood-fire pizza oven. Most evenings it's parked in his driveway with some cafe lights out front, although he does take it to farmer's markets and catering events. Anyway, it's something fun to look forward to mid-week, and nice to get to know a few neighbors around as we wait for our pizza dinner.

Well, I guess that's all for this time. Oh yes, it's getting cold. Like 19 degrees this weekend--that kind of cold. I have mixed feelings about that--mostly fear.

Til next time...
