The Wall of Water

This morning, I was reflecting on God's faithfulness to me through difficult times of loss or transition.  The image that came to mind was walking through a waterfall. And that sounded poetic.  So poetry it is.

I see it from a distance--
the Wall of Water
Rushing down, showering mist
My hand stretches toward the promise, but...

I am afraid.
What lies ahead?
What lies beyond?
Just a foot away, longing to stay
But forward is the only way
A drop, a steady stream, a gushing surge!
Under!
Drenched in the Wall of Water--
the Wall of Tears
So thick and pounding
The weight wearies my shoulders
closes my eyes
makes me shudder and sputter
and gasp for breath
"Oh, how long?" I cry.
And then, at last, my fingers burst out
My toes step free
My face turns up at last to see
the sunlight!
the rainbows smiling back at me
I hear my Father's voice above:
"This is my Child, the one I love!"
All is washed and feeling clean
Refreshed, new vigor fills my being
Your light floods into my eyes
With new visions for beyond the Wall
And though I know I must return
To face the Wall again someday
Savor this moment...
Let it stay...
Let it be a light then,
and help to guide my way.

  1. Going through the deluge to find the rainbow... An allusion to the Flood?

You are probably the master (mistress?) of object lessons, Andrea.

  2. This is very beautiful. I could feel the water pounding on my face.
