Be Still and Be Sent
Well...so far my "mission trip" photos are of nice beaches and hotels, but I am trying to remember that there are always opportunities to reach people, and am praying for those opportunities.
On the plane from Honolulu to Guam, I had a fun little mission opportunity. My friend Jacqui sent me some small cards with Bible verses or blessings on them that you can color (like, adult coloring book style) and share. So I picked one to color, and as I was starting, one of the flight attendants walked by and said, "I want to color!" That gave me the idea to give it to her when I finished. It said "You are precious to God." I also added a short thank you message on the back, and gave it to her as she was collecting trash. At first she was worried I was just going to throw it away, but I assured her that it was for her. She smiled and thanked me then and came back by later to thank me again. She seemed happy about it. It's not much, but with a little prayer that God helps her believe that message, you never know.
Today we did a little shopping for a few needed items, including a cheap pre-paid cell phone for emergencies. We got to enjoy the best K-Mart in the world, probably. It's kind of funny--there's no Walmart here, but the K-Mart is really nice. Japanese tourist buses stop there--maybe they think K-Mart is an amazing American store. Haha.
We also stopped by Two Lover's Point, where, as the legend goes, a chief's daughter and her forbidden lover lept to their deaths rather than be torn apart by the maiden's arranged marriage to a Spanish warrior. Romantically tragic, tourist-ready.
We spent several hours at the beach here at our hotel, and in the water. Perfect, beautiful, hot. Met some nice people from Texas that worked for an airline, and their boys who enjoyed burying each other completely in sand.
Karen and I both talked about how we realized we hadn't had time to just sit and relax in awhile--especially Karen. She just wrapped up her year as a Kindergarten teacher right before we left. We are thankful for time to slow down a little, I mean, since we have to anyway.
I'm not good at guessing "why" God allows interruptions and changes, but I know He can always lead, always teach, always use us wherever if we are ready. So here am I--in Guam for a few days...Send me.
PS The breakfast buffet is awesome here! Had an omelet with shitake mushrooms and veggies, incredible pineapple, and guava juice. Of course it was $20, and I probably only ate $8 worth but it's all on United anyway.
