Promises for the Waiting Room

But still, it's sometimes hard to remember and believe. The other day, I wrote out all these verses (listed below) in the bathroom where I read them every day. And when I do, it's like the light switches on, and I can see once again. They remind me of Who is in control when I feel so out of control, and they give me courage to keep believing that God has a plan.
So here's some reading for those of you also hanging out in God's waiting room for awhile:
"Now I will rescue you and make you both a symbol and a source of blessing! So don't be afraid or discouraged, but instead get on with rebuilding the Temple!" Zech. 8:13
"Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord is the one who goes before you. He will be with you; He will neither fail you nor forsake you." Deut. 31:8
"Choose to love the Lord your God and to obey Him and commit yourself to Him, for He is your life." Deut.30:20
"Yet I am confident that I will see the Lord's goodness while I am here in the land of the living." Ps. 27:13
"There can be no joy for me until He acts." Ps. 77:2
"Your road led through the sea, Your pathway through the mighty waters--a pathway no one knew was there!" Ps. 77:19
"Don't be afraid. Just stand where you are and watch the Lord rescue you." Ex. 13:13
"'You call me by name and tell me I have found favor with you. Please, if this is really so, show me Your intentions, so I will understand You more fully and do exactly what You want me to do'...The Lord replied, 'I will personally go with you...' 'If you don't go with us personally, don't let us move another step from this place...'" Ex. 33:13-15
"Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart's desires." Ps. 37:4
"We do not know what to do, but we are looking to You for help." 2 Chron. 20:12
"I will not let You go unless You bless me." Gen. 32:26
"I am the Light of the world. If you follow Me, you won't be stumbling through the darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life." John 8:12
"And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them." Rom. 8:28
"I will go wherever you go and live wherever you live..." Ruth 1:16
"...it was not their own strength that gave them victory. It was by Your mighty power that they succeeded." Ps. 44:3
"Trust in the Lord with all Your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths." Prov. 3:5, 6
"But if we look forward to something we don't have yet, we must wait patiently and confidently." Rom. 8:25

Thanks. I'm a little behind you on the road (i.e., just got my bachelor's), but this post--I needed to read it. I thought I'd learned to wait, but apparently those were only the first couple lessons. So thanks.
ReplyDeleteOh Ashlee, I'm starting to think the lessons have just begun! And the lessons just change form in what you're waiting for. :) It's hard to wait for something more and yet find contentment in the here and now, but maybe with more practice, it gets easier? Thanks for sharing.
DeleteAndrea, I still haven't looked at the link you sent me. Maybe I will today. Those list of Bible texts were good for my soul. In fact, I may add them to my list of "Things To Memorize". For me, the strongest admonition was, "...get on with rebuilding the Temple." It is a difficult thing to keep doing something instead of just stopping and waiting. Yet in there, there is balance, as much as God wants us to go for it He also wants us to "Just stand where you are and let the Lord rescue you." There is much to think about. Thank you for this.
ReplyDeleteI hope you do look at that link! I also really like that about Scripture--how it keeps us balanced. Just when I start to get discouraged because I am not sure my effort means anything, He says "get on with rebuilding the Temple," and just when I start to get discouraged that my efforts are not enough, He says "Just stand where you are!" And the point is, no matter if it is some kind of result of my effort, or whether it's all Him and completely out of the blue, "it was by Your mighty power that they succeeded."
