Elements of a Perfect Birthday

Here, my readers, are the things that make a perfect birthday for me:

Yep, that's me on the big screen.
1.  Woke up early by the SM girls and Lorraine singing happy birthday, and bringing brownies and a hand-made card.

2.  Talking to my parents on Skype before going to work.

3.  Wearing my new crazy, tie-dye dress from Guam.

4.  Getting a nu-nu (lei) to wear for the day.

5.  The whole student body singing happy birthday (even if they were a bit tired-sounding at 8 in the morning) at flag-raising assembly.

6.  Getting very sweet messages on hand-made cards from the 4th graders.

7.  Everyone wishing me a happy birthday ALL day.

8.  Going to town with Lorraine...to pick up my birthday present--a new SIM card and pre-paid phone card for my cell phone!

9.  A surprise birthday party!  Unfortunately, I had a hunch we might be doing something, and then I heard a balloon pop next door...and then, LOTS of shoes piled outside the door...But it was still a surprise!  They even made a video.  Everyone had recorded video clips with messages, and they talked to my family to get old pictures from home, which I got to explain as we watched it.  Then we ate fresh-baked pizza, fried rice, rice cakes, and cake and ice cream!  Oh, and there was a coconut with my name on it--literally.  It was carved into the outside, and the rest was carved away--just waiting for the straw!  I got to blow out candles, and just enjoy seeing and hearing everyone together, taking a break from the worries and stresses of normal life.  Some of us stayed a little extra to watch "MegaMind," and it really felt like old times, even if it was new people.

10.  Talking with Lorraine until late about life.

11.  Being in Yap, so that people wish my a happy birthday for TWO days on facebook, as well as all the other cards and packages that make home feel just a little closer.
