When I Am Afraid...
With three weeks to go, I'm getting down to the hardcore Yap prep...shipping boxes, selling my car, trying to find someone to take my Verizon phone and contract...trying not to think about what it will be like to say goodbye to my family at the airport again. This isn't my favorite part of transition, or long-term commitments. But I'm losing it to gain, right? Right...?
I suppose any missionary, or any person who is taking a risk for something they really care about, has to go through this part of the journey. The doubts and fears come marching one by one, right before I go to bed. Any failure or frustration I've had that day somehow becomes a reason why I am not prepared enough, healthy enough, smart enough, spiritual enough to do this job. It's scary, and it might overwhelm and paralyze me, except for...
"Now glory be to God! By His mighty power at work within us, He is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope." Eph. 3:20 (NLT)
"O Sovereign Lord, you made the heavens and earth by your strong hand and powerful arm. Nothing is too hard for you!" Jer. 32:17 (NLT)
"'My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.' So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.'" 2 Cor. 12:9 (NLT)
"There are some things that people cannot do, but God can do anything." Matt. 19:26
"Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand." Isa. 41:10 (NLT)
"When I am afraid, I will trust in you." Psalm 56:3 (ASV)
*If you have any other verses along these lines, feel free to share. Thanks. :) And prayers are always appreciated.

Go you! I'm so happy for you... Trust in God and he will continue to guide you :) Good luck with the transition and selling your car! It is an awesome car.
ReplyDeleteToday in the car I was on my way to the library and I had one of those moments where prayer sort of overflows out of my mouth to God. And I had to tell him that I felt like this PhD idea was a big mistake, that I'm not really smart enough or spiritual enough to do this. (And, if He really wanted to know, I do NOT appreciate having to live with my in-laws to make it happen!)
ReplyDeleteAnd you know what He told me back?
1. You're a missionary. That means living uncomfortably so that others can hear My good news.
2. You only have this day. Enjoy it, use it.
3. >>Everything on Andrea's blog.<<
Seriously, thanks, Andrea. You're an inspiration to me. (You're probably shaking your head at this right now, but really, you are and a good one, too.)
