Sunsets and Second-Hand Sunsets
Today I was remembering a few things that I miss about...Yap. Yes, I do still miss things from Yap, and I'm starting to think that some of those things I will always miss.
1. Sunsets
I miss seeing the way the clouds changed into brilliant colors as the sun met the green hills each evening. I watched as many as I could.

3. Flowers
Almost every day, I saw a child's hand extended with a fresh blossom, which I often would place in my hair--bright pink or white or just tiny little yellow ones that grew in the grass. Then there was the plumeria tree that grew right behind our apartments. Every Friday afternoon, I would rescue a few fallen flowers and place them in a bowl on our table, and they smelled so nice. And then of course, the daily display of leis that students would wear on their heads or give to us teachers to make us feel special.
But I was thinking today that there are definitely some things I can be thankful for here in Yosemite, as well as some things I can learn.
1. Second-Hand Sunsets
I can't see the sunsets because we are in a valley, and there are rarely any clouds to speak of. But I can see the Wawona Dome shining in golden glory, reflecting the light of the disappearing sun each evening. I want to somehow reflect the light of Jesus' love to others too, so that if others are unable to see the Son, they can at least see His reflection and know He lives, and hopefully one day see Him for themselves.
2. Blue Skies
Clouds are rarely seen here, and the sky is such an intense blue without any humidity to diffuse its radiance. Right now I feel like I let a lot of clouds or humidity diffuse the intensity of what God wants others to see of who I really am. I don't like to admit that I'm hiding, but when I see the blue sky, it reminds me that I need to be more open. Really, I need to ask God to help me be more open, because I already know it's too much for me right now.
3. Incense Cedar Trees
These trees are so graceful and tall, and are all around this area. Their bark runs in long, deep ridges all the way up the trunks, and they scent the air smell clean and peaceful. I also want the fragrant aroma of the grace and peace of God's presence in my life to be evident to everyone around me.
"The Lord keeps watch over you as you come and go, both now and forever." Psalm 121:8 (NLT)

2. Rainbows
Yes, I DID see double rainbows all the way across the sky. But even just the normal ones that came often between the rainstorms made me smile and feel like God was winking at me.3. Flowers
