General Updates

--We’ve had a mission trip group here for a couple weeks doing VBS for elementary, Week of Prayer for the rest, tiling the middle school floors, and several doctors working at the hospital. Most have left, but we have really enjoyed having them here.

--One of my students, Lex, is leaving our class. I didn’t know it until Parent/Teacher Conferences, but he’s going back to his home on one of the outer islands. We will miss him. Now I have 11 students.

--We had a surprise holiday today, with no school! We still don’t even know what the holiday is. ☺

--Spring Break is next week, and this Friday we are taking a ship, or large boat, to the outer islands of Ulithi, where five of us girls will be staying for the week. All the arrangements have been made thanks to wonderful church members and family of one of the girls going. We will be flying back the following Friday, and will be staying in a house with electricity and running water, but that’s about it. Sorry—I will be out of communication for the whole week! ☺

--I had a kid bring in a small bottle that said “Vodka” on it the other day, and was not quite sure what to do. I took it from him, and he seemed equally confused. I didn’t make a big deal, but told him I’d talk with him about it later. During recess, I went to the office to show them, and they laughed. Apparently everybody uses those bottles for coconut oil, which they use for their skin. They opened the lid to check, and sure enough, it smelled like coconuts. My student was happy to get it back, and I was happy that nobody had to get in trouble. ☺

--I am now officially missing friends and family and maybe even some things about America. But I still love being here, and trying to enjoy every minute. I know I will miss everyone and everything so much when I leave. Time is flying, and it won’t be long until it’s all just memories and pictures.

  1. We've been officially missing you for a long time already!

I remember crossing off every day of the calendar my last month in Prague, and I wish I could go back and relive those days and appreciate the richness of the experience. Glad you have better perspective than I did :)
