Look Closer
The way things were
The way things should be
The way things are
I clearly see what I missed then
The blessings I wish I had again
Forgetting what I lacked.
Even clearer still I see
The way life is supposed to be
So different than it is.
I can barely see the way it is
So cramped with memories
And disappointments.
Look closer
Deeper
Longer
Harder
At the way it is.
There is more than I thought
Becoming easier to spot
The simple gifts.
Hidden blackberries
Summer thunderstorm
A moment of right perspective.
It's not what I had
Or what I'd like to have
But it's more than enough...
If I look closer.
